I have a strange problem.
I’m not sure how many other people experience this, but here I am, tossing it out anyway. Like I’ve described in a previous post, my job involves working at the regional government level to help out the staffs of all the local governments in the New River Valley. The perks are hobnobbing with Town Managers and Mayors; the downsides are too much paperwork and beaurecratese. But the odd part is: I like it. I know, I don’t believe it either – most everyone knows me as the slightly scatterbrained, quirky-creative girl obsessed with the outdoors and reading thick, paper-backed novels. But the sliiiiightly OCD part of me really loves the structure that comes with dealing with governmental “stuff.” They usually give you a checklist of do’s and don’ts, they give you timelines, page restrictions, websites with Q&A, and manuals (albeit 4 inches thick).
So I guess I’ve already described my problem: while at my job, doing things like Environmental Reviews for the entire New River Valley (to say overwhelming would be an understatement) and liking it, I feel compelled to simultaneously sneak peeks at how to make dark chocolate truffles and scratch down tips for how to construct a green house by myself. Who am I?
